Issue: When tack curing any resin cement for too long (more than 2-3 seconds) there are instances where marginal ditching may occur if the cement becomes somewhat brittle and breaks off during clean-up.

Recommendation: Light curing the area for no more than two seconds prior to clean-up can greatly reduce the occurrence of marginal ditching.

Recommendation: From restorations:
Excess cement is best removed after brief light exposure (approximately 2 seconds) OR after 2 minutes from the start of the mix. After excess removal the margins should be thoroughly light cured for 20 seconds per surface.
If excess cement is removed immediately with a sponge pellet or similar implement after the restoration is seated, the remaining minimal excess cement should be light-cured briefly or covered with glycerine gel to prevent the oxygen-inhibited layer from forming and to reduce the possibility of marginal ditching.
